America must be a good role model

In an FT article on 18 March, US Presidential candidate Senator John McCain emphasised the importance of strengthening US-EU cooperation to tackle global problems:
"We strongly support the EU's efforts to build an effective European Security and Defence policy. A strong EU, a strong NATO and a true strategic partnership between them is profoundly in our interest."

Commons votes in favour of EU Treaty

The EU Lisbon Treaty Bill cleared its final Commons hurdle as MPs voted by 346 to 206 to approve it.

The decision follows weeks of detailed debates in which CGE Chairman Ian Taylor MP together with other pro-European Conservative MPs spoke out in favour of the Treaty, highlighting its benefits for the UK and Europe. MPs rejected the idea that there should be a referendum on the Treaty. Ian Taylor said in the House that "the best way of undermining the sovereignty of Parliament is to have a referendum, which is designed to bypass Parliament."

MPs speak out in support of Reform Treaty

Conservative MPs Ian Taylor, Kenneth Clarke, John Gummer and David Curry have been speaking in favour of the EU Reform Treaty Bill during its debates in the House of Commons.

CGE joins the Coalition for the Reform Treaty

CGE Chairman Ian Taylor MP announced on Wednesday that, following a consultation with the CGE Executive, the Group has signed up to the Coalition for the Reform Treaty, a cross-party campaign which aims at articulating a positive case for the Reform Treaty and highlighting its benefits for the UK and Europe.

Ian Taylor announced the decision at the campaign’s parliamentary launch on 16 January, at which former CGE Chairman David Curry MP was a speaker.
